Building Zimbabwe’s Critical Minerals Future

Latara Group is developing critical mineral opportunities in Zimbabwe by combining geological insight, market intelligence, and strategic partnerships across the lithium value chain. No refinery has been built yet — we are building the relationships, knowledge, and pipeline that will get us there.

THE PROBLEM

Africa exports raw minerals. The world refines them elsewhere.

Zimbabwe banned raw lithium ore exports in 2022 to push local value-addition, and has continued tightening its concentrate export framework since. Global lithium refining capacity, meanwhile, remains heavily concentrated in China — leaving Western battery manufacturers with few independent, transparent routes to African feedstock.

Local and small-scale miners across Zimbabwe’s lithium belt can mine ore, but few can afford to build their own chemical processing plants — leaving them reliant on a small number of buyers. That gap in independent, in-country refining capacity is what Latara Group is working to close.
